2 of 2 people found the following review helpful High value for cheap, October 12, 2010 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Okuma Diemos Graphite Spinning Combo (Sports) I was in need of a medium spinning rod for my surf fishing sessions and had my eyes on the more high-end, brand-name products since there's a saying, "buy cheap, buy twice", but money was an issue so after many researches I decided to give the Okuma Diemos a try.
Upon arrival, I was quite impress with the look, the combo is lightweight and it has cork split butt which helps with balance since I'll be doing extended casts after casts throwing hardbaits. I sprained my wrists using a Shakespear medium-light rod for this type of fishing all day before so it was a must for me. The reel was more on the small size, but since it's a medium rod and I mostly used light lines from 8-15 lbs so it's not a major problem for me.
I'd like the guides to look a little bit more sturdy since they're on the thin/weak side. I've caught over 10 halibuts in the surf with this rod with the biggests being around 29", and a lot of stripers around 4-9 lbs and this rod handled them all with ease. I've... Read more
1 of 1 people found the following review helpful Freshwater Rod and Reel, March 3, 2011 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Okuma Diemos Graphite Spinning Combo (Sports) I purchased this combo for freshwater shore fishing because of the sleek design. It does not disappoint when it comes to looks. The reel is smooth spinning (6 lb mono test) and can hold a lot of line (275+). The eyes on the rod seem very fragile and has yet to be tested on a large catch. So far, after 4 trips to the lake, I have landed one 1 lb trout and it felt good reeling it in. All my cast feel smooth and casting distance appears to be maximized (3/4 oz weight).
Junk, May 14, 2011 By L. Jones (Ft Worth, TX USA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Okuma Diemos Graphite Spinning Combo (Sports) Maybe I got two lemons. First one arrived broken. The package was great and showed no signs of damage. The second one arrived intact but as soon I hooked a fish, it breaks in three pieces. I was past the warranty time frame so I am out of luck.
The combo is great for bream and small fish but not for bass (not even small ones).
