Nice reel but the pole broke, March 9, 2012 By This review is from: Zebco 33/602M Bite Alert Spincast Fishing Rod and Reel Combo (Sports) I purchased this rod about 1.5 years ago and have fished heavily with it during the spring and summer. During the crappie season, you can find me at the lake 4 to 5 days per week. I have caught crappie, striper, catfish, gar, turtles and during with winter, I use the combo to snag shad for catfishing with the larger cousin of the bait alert combos. I will admit that I am extremely hard on my fishing gear.
The battery that makes the bite alert work needs tended to. You must make sure that you do not leave the bite alert on when you are using the pole. The bite alert runs on a small watch battery that costs 5.49 so leaving the bite alert on can cost you a couple dozen minnows in price.
The bite alert is nice, I can set up 4 crappie poles and not have to worry to much about missing a bite. The bite alert does not always work. but if you fish at night it is nice not to have to stare at your pole.

Incomplete Order, December 10, 2011 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Zebco 33/602M Bite Alert Spincast Fishing Rod and Reel Combo (Sports) I received my package last week and found that the "combo" only included the half of the fishing pole that had the reel attached. How do you pack an order for a rod and reel combo and send only half of the rod? It should be pretty obvious that you can't fish with half a pole, so why pack half a pole?
I don't have time to monkey around with sending it back or trying to get the missing half as this is a Christmas gift. Now I have to go buy a pole that I already bought.
I won't make this mistake again.

There is nothing better, in my opinion. I have 5 different versions of the 33, 733, and the Hawg Seeker (a big cat version of the Bite Alert). The Bite Alert reel is a cool piece of new technology. Very easy to adjust how sensitive you want the alarm. The reel fits nicely in the palm, not too heavy or awkward. I fish with multiple poles so this alarm system is great. It detects any kind of pressure on the line. Not so sensitive that the wind will set it off! I bought this set-up mostly for night fishing, but it's a pleasure to use during the day, as well. One downer= the battery was dead when I got it.
Now for the rod. I like the composition of the rod, great color-with the nearly clear at the end. Makes for better visualization at night. My biggest complaint is weight.
