Great Value, September 17, 2007 By DOG (Nevada) - See all my reviews This review is from: OKUMA TEMPEST READY-TO-FISH FLY FISHING COMBOS (Sports) After borrowing from friends I decided to buy my own rod. I didn't want to put a ton of money into it, but wanted soemthing that I could use to build my skills. This rod fits that need well. It arrived in great condition and almost ready to go. The reel is wound with backing, fly line, and leader. You will need tippet and flies. On my first day out with it I got a small brown trout on the line. I gave it four stars because I'm sure there are better set-ups available, but I doubt they are anywhere close to this price.

It can be found cheaper on the net, but if purchased seperately, you would spend much more. The rod is very light and well balanced. The reel is smooth and easy. Buy it, and tie some ribbon to the tip and practice casting the line, and you will be ready to go. All you need are some fly's. If you have been thinking about trying fly fishing, this is a great starting point, and I highly recommend it. Best of luck.

This rod and reel combo is nice for the beginner (like me). But I've found that the line you get has too much memory so it doesn't cast very well. I'm thinking of putting a higher quality line on it to have better results and longer casts. Anyone else experience this too?
