Awesome reel for a lefty, August 8, 2011 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Okuma Solterra Graphite Lever Drag Left-Handed Levelwind Open Top Frame Reel (Sports) I have not been able to find another left handed lever drag model by any other manufacturer. This one is great. I have boated several nice kings and many cohos with this reel and am impressed with the performance. Drag is very smooth, and easy to adjust on the fight...
Line capacity allows for an optimisitc amount of braided line (I'll be well spooled for the day I eventually hook into that 60+ lb king salmon)...
I've only had this reel for half of the current season (after the larger King salmon runs had passed by), so we'll see how it fairs after 2-3 more years of saltwater abuse!
I am actually thinking of bumping up to the next frame and spool size (SLR - 20X) for my halibut rigs... would be nice to find those in a left handed model, too!!!
Great Reel, July 20, 2011 By This review is from: Okuma Solterra Graphite Lever Drag Left-Handed Levelwind Open Top Frame Reel (Misc.) It's a great reel. Instructions on the lever drag would of been nice. I had to go on-line for a YouTube demo. Works like a charm. A really smooth winder, and lever drag is perfect for the stripers. I wish they made a smaller one for fluke.
Okuma SLR-15LX Solterra Review, February 11, 2011 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Okuma Solterra Graphite Lever Drag Left-Handed Levelwind Open Top Frame Reel (Sports) Solidly built reel designed for trolling. I use these for catfish were we boat our baits out. These will cast short range, but this is not really their purpose. I am using with 100lb braid and with their stainless gears, they seem more than up to the job, and the lever drag is easy to use and works well. My only niggle is that in free spool there is no spool tensioning screw and you have to engage the lever drag very slightly or use the ratchet. Setting the lever drag so that min setting allows a tensioned free spool means that lever drag does not get to its max setting when fully engaged, and you can't really adjust it while playing a big fish. However, for the money they are unbeatable and the only left handed lever drag with level wind that I could find.
