Fifty kayak fishing trips with regular service/cleaning and this reel did not hold up. Failed at the input shaft, where most of the stress is.
Initially this reel performed very well, being smooth and well proportioned. I have a great deal of experience with shimano and have always liked their products. I believe that many reels now are under-built and intended only to be used a few times, or for casual use. If this is your goal then the reel may perform fine. I don't consider a reel to be disposable, therefore give this one 2 stars.

Mated my Sonora 2500 with a St. Croix Mojo Bass Spinning Rod, a great combo...Plan on using her on :Kentucky bass, white bass, and rainbow trout...it being dead of winter here now only fished for rainbows and both rod and reel proved to be worth there weight in gold, which is an understatement as the rod weighs almost nothing...i did start out with 6 lb. mono which was a mistake, it did not cast light weighted lures well, that day switched to 8 lb. braid and have been completely satisfied...would recomend...rsbreaux
